With your skills and experience, you can contribute to the millions of ways we're enriching health, and develop your career as part of the largest health organisation in Australia.

Achieve Something Great
Join South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD) as a Work Health & Safety (WHS) Associate (Health Manager Level 1) and play a pivotal role in shaping a safe and healthy work environment for our people and the communities we serve. This permanent full time position offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a district-wide safety culture that supports our workforce and enhances patient care.

As a WHS Associate, you will support the WHS team and SWSLHD management by providing advice, coordination, and practical assistance across a broad range of safety and wellbeing initiatives. You will contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of WHS practices that align with our strategic and systematic approach to safety management.

In this role, you’ll collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, participate in risk assessments and incident investigations, develop safety documentation, and help ensure compliance with WHS legislation and best practice. Your work will directly support a proactive, informed, and positive culture of safety across the district.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about health and safety and motivated to contribute to meaningful improvements within a leading health organisation.

Are You the Right Fit?
The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic and collaborative safety professional who is committed to building safe, healthy, and high performing workplaces. You communicate confidently, engage well with staff at all levels, and bring a proactive mindset to identifying and addressing WHS challenges. With strong organisational skills and attention to detail, you are comfortable balancing hands on WHS support with administrative and analytical tasks in a dynamic healthcare environment.

You bring foundational knowledge of WHS legislation and best practice, along with experience or exposure to risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety documentation. Confident using digital systems to manage data and reporting, you also support training and contribute to continuous improvement across WHS processes. Relevant tertiary qualifications in WHS (or progress toward them), combined with a genuine passion for workplace health and safety, will help you thrive in this role.

Selection Criteria
To help us assess your suitability for the role, please tell us as much as you can about yourself in response to the questions below.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in WHS or working towards and / or practical experience in work health and safety matters demonstrated in a recent role. Allied Health background or knowledge of work health and safety management practices and legislation would be highly regarded.
  • Can you describe how your experience in organisational support, communication, and stakeholder engagement would contribute to effectively managing WHS systems, prioritising tasks, and fostering positive relationships in this role?
  • Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
