This is an exciting career opportunity for a suitably qualified, experienced and highly motivated dietitian to further develop their skills and experience in the leadership and management of clinical nutrition services.

You will assist the Nutrition and Dietetics Department Head, in the operational direction, leadership and management of the Nutrition and Dietetics Department within St George Hospital.  Your high level of clinical expertise will be required to support the dietetics workforce to deliver high quality nutrition care to diverse patients/clients across the hospital’s services consistent with NSW Ministry of Health (MoH) and South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) policies, procedures and standards. This includes the day-to-day co-ordination of clinical service delivery; the planning, monitoring and evaluation of services; clinical supervision and support of staff and the development and implementation of innovative service models and initiatives. The position contributes directly to the development of policy, with consideration of the strategic context. This position also manages a clinical caseload.


St George Hospital is part of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District. It is an accredited, principal teaching hospital of the University of New South Wales and is not only the largest hospital within the Local Health District, but is among the leading centres for trauma and emergency management in the State. The hospital’s areas of special expertise also include cancer services, critical care, cardiothoracic surgery and women’s and children’s health care.

Our department is a large team of dedicated dietitians (ranging from early career to experienced clinical specialists), Dietitian Assistants and a Dietitian Assistant Supervisor. We have innovative Dietitian Assistant clinical pathways providing support to Dietitians across the hospital. We have a clinical educator dietitian supporting our student teaching and training with our University partners. As a team we are committed to supporting each other to ensure the delivery of excellent nutrition care to our patients and clients.

The hospital is currently undergoing redevelopment with a brand new Kensington Street Building (KSB) opening in April 2026. The KSB brings together a range of day only, ambulatory and outpatient services that are currently being delivered from a number of locations around the hospital campus. This will improve accessibility for patients and their carers; particularly for those less mobile or who have chronic health conditions. The KSB will also include three levels of inpatient beds, Allied Health outpatient clinics and an Allied Health staff hub. The St George Hospital Redevelopment will provide staff, patients and carers with a first-class facility, designed to meet the health needs of our community, now and into the future.

Selection Criteria

  1. Qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award and demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional learning.
  2. Extensive clinical experience within nutrition and dietetics.
  3. Demonstrated ability to provide high-level guidance, leadership, and strategic management of staff, resources, and services, with a strong focus on building team capability and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel, complex or critical nature.
  5. Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes while applying evidence-based practice to enhance clinical outcomes within the designated area.
  6. Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
