An exciting opportunity is available for a CSSD Instrument Technician to join the Central Sterilisation Services Department (CSSD) at Armidale Rural Referral Hospital.
As an integral member of our CSSD team, you will play a vital role in delivering safe, timely, and high-quality sterile instruments and equipment to Operating Theatres, inpatient wards, Allied Health areas, and external agencies. Your work will directly contribute to exceptional patient care across the hospital and the wider New England region.

Armidale Rural Referral Hospital provides essential acute and surgical services to the Armidale community and surrounding areas, while also acting as a referral hub for smaller facilities across the Tablelands cluster.

What you'll be doing 
In this hands-on role, you will support Operating Theatres, the Day Procedure Centre, and other clinical areas by delivering high-quality sterilisation services. Key responsibilities include:

  • Collecting, decontaminating, disinfecting, inspecting, assembling, packaging, sterilising, and distributing reusable medical devices (RMDs).
  • Safely operating sterilisation and related equipment to ensure compliance and quality outcomes.
  • Ensuring timely availability of sterile instrumentation.
  • Adhering to AS/NZ Standard 4187 and GENCA Infection Control Guidelines.
  • Following hospital and CSSD policies to maintain consistent, high standards of service.
  • Working collaboratively and safely within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Managing sterile stock, including unpacking, packing, and rotation to ensure efficiency and compliance.


About you
You are a reliable and detail-focused professional who is passionate about infection prevention and patient safety. You will bring:

  • Certificate III in Sterilisation Services (or willingness to work towards completion).
  • Experience in a hospital or clinical environment.
  • Sound knowledge of infection control standards, including AS/NZ 4187.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • An understanding of waste management principles.
  • A respectful, cooperative, and professional approach to your work.
