Staff Specialist General Practitioner - HNE Trans and Gender Diverse Services
Temporary Part Time, 0.5 FTE for two years
Location: Hamilton East, Newcastle
An exciting opportunity exists for a passionate and experienced General Practitioner to join the HNE Gender Service, one of only two state-wide specialist hubs in NSW providing holistic, multidisciplinary outpatient care to young people up to 25 years who are transgender, gender exploring, or experiencing gender dysphoria.
The service, based at Maple Leaf House through John Hunter Children’s Hospital, brings together a dedicated team including psychology, psychiatry, social work, dietetics, speech pathology, specialist nursing, and medical staff, supported by skilled administrative staff.
As a Staff Specialist GP, you will:
• Provide high-quality, patient-centred care within a multidisciplinary team.
• Contribute specialist expertise in primary care and adolescent health for young people with diverse and complex needs.
• Work collaboratively with psychiatry, psychology, allied health, and nursing colleagues to deliver safe and affirming care.
• Participate in service development, quality improvement, and clinical governance activities in this evolving area of health.
• Play a key role in supporting the health and wellbeing of trans and gender diverse young people and their families.
The successful applicant will bring:
• Fellowship of the RACGP and/or ACRRM, with unrestricted specialist registration with AHPRA.
• Demonstrated experience in adolescent health, sexual health, mental health, or other relevant areas.
• A commitment to inclusive, evidence-based, person-centred care for trans and gender diverse communities.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills.
• An interest in service development, education, and research is desirable.
