Based at Westmead Hospital, WBIRS delivers a continuum of care from coma emergence through to community reintegration. What you'll be doing
As an Inpatient Speech Pathologist, you’ll deliver specialised assessment and intervention for adults recovering from traumatic brain injury. You will play a critical role in supporting swallowing, communication, cognitive‑communication and social‑interaction needs—working closely with families, clinicians, and rehabilitation partners to achieve meaningful outcomes.
Your impact will include:
Providing evidence‑based communication and swallowing assessments and therapy, including MBS interpretation and partner‑training
Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies to optimise rehabilitation outcomes
Setting functional goals, documenting progress, and contributing to coordinated discharge planning
Participating in service development, clinical projects, and statewide working groups (e.g., SPBIIG)
Supporting student placements, mentoring peers and maintaining up‑to‑date clinical knowledge

Essential Requirements
Registration for membership of Speech Pathology Australia
Qualification: Degree in Speech Pathology recognised by Speech Pathology Australia
Selection Criteria
Recognised tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology and eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia
Post-graduate experience in management of patients with brain injury or adult neurological conditions and neurorehabilitation
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to manage clinical and non-clinical responsibilities
Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team environment
Demonstrated use of the principles of evidence-based practice
Demonstrated commitment to professional development within the area of neurorehabilitation
Demonstrated commitment to supervision and principals of life-long learning
