Where you'll be working:
Join the Mental Health team at The Maitland Hospital. You’ll be part of a supportive and highly skilled multidisciplinary team that values collaboration, innovation, and person-centred care. With a strong focus on treatment planning, risk assessment, and working together to achieve the best outcomes for consumers, this role offers a chance to make a real impact.

About the role:
As a Social Worker at the Maitland Mental Health Unit, you’ll play a vital role within a collaborative multidisciplinary team, bringing the psychosocial perspective to care. Your work will focus on addressing psychosocial stressors, championing family and cultural inclusion, and contributing specialist input around family and domestic violence and child protection. You’ll also support individuals at risk of homelessness and help people stay connected to their communities by linking them with the right networks and resources.

This is a chance to use your skills to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives while working in a team that values collaboration, compassion, and holistic care.

You’ll be joining a small, supportive team of two Social Workers within the Unit, with the added benefit of direct professional support from a Senior Social Worker based in the community team. To help you succeed and grow, you’ll receive regular clinical supervision, a comprehensive orientation program, and access to ongoing education and professional development opportunities.

This is a role where you’ll feel supported, connected, and encouraged to continue building your skills and career.

About you:
We are looking for a Social Worker who brings compassion, professionalism, and adaptability to their practice. The ideal candidate will work from a culturally sensitive and trauma-informed perspective, with the ability to complete thorough psychosocial assessments and engage inclusively with consumers, families, and carers.

You will have a strong understanding of how mental health impacts an individual’s life experience and be confident working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders. To thrive in this role, you’ll need to be flexible, organised, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment, with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the capacity to balance competing demands effectively.

Requirements:

  • Degree in social work providing eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
