Where you will be working
Southern NSW Local Health District covers a large area of the Southern half of NSW. Surrounding the ACT on three sides and all the way down to the Victorian border, it extends from the pristine beaches of the NSW South Coast, the farmlands of the Southern Tablelands, across the picturesque Great Dividing Range and the spectacular Snowy Mountains. Southern NSWLHD comprises of 2 Networks - Inlands centred around Goulburn, Monaro, Queanbeyan and Cooma, AND Coastal centered around Bega, Batemans Bay and Moruya in the far south-east corner of NSW and the Integrated Care Network.

What You’ll be doing
The primary objective of the Director Medical Services (DMS) is to ensure the safe, effective and efficient delivery of the full range of Medical Services across the Inland Network within Southern NSW Local Health District. You will work with a highly skilled and highly motivated group of medical administrators, a RACMA trainee and District Medical Leads. In addition, you will be an essential member of the Inland Network Executive managing the business of healthcare and safety and quality.
Essential Criteria:
Current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Medical Practitioner or registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators, and/or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award, and/or working towards FRACMA and/or other post graduate qualifications that are appropriate and pertinent to the function of the DMS.
Evidence of a current, unrestricted class C driver's license. Ability and willingness to travel for work purposes. This may involve driving long distances and overnight stays as required.
Your Opportunity:
Provide operational leadership and management of the medical services function for the Goulburn, Yass & Crookwell Hospitals to deliver excellence in patient care and experience by staff whose behaviours are aligned to the organisation's goals, values and strategic intent.
Provide professional leadership and support structures for medical services, actively supporting and mentoring senior and junior medical staff to effectively perform their roles.

Work with clinical staff, executives and managers to promote excellence, strengthen clinician involvement in decision making, strategic service planning and clinical practice improvements.
Engage, develop and maintain an effective, skilled and capable medical workforce to meet present and future health needs, addressing the inherent challenges facing medical recruitment in regional and rural areas. Execute and embed comprehensive and contemporary credentialing and appointments, active promotion of a learning culture and assertive management and resolution of issues such as grievances, misconduct and performance management.
Support the Executive Director Medical Services to lead value-based healthcare, striving to deliver care that improves health outcomes that matter to patients. Take action to implement, monitor and evaluate medical services activities and structures to deliver good governance and clinical risk management which meets appropriate standards, awards and agreements and required accreditation measures.
Exercise competent financial and operational accountability through active participation in development and implementation of action plans to achieve targets and key performance indicators.
Grow cooperative and supportive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support integration and coordination across programs, services and sites resulting in a single integrated health service.

Selection Criteria:
Demonstrated extensive experience of clinical leadership and management at the executive or senior level.
Demonstrated capacity in communication and negotiation.
Proven ability to influence and resolve conflict.
Evidence of excellent consultative and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated understanding of and ability to lead clinical governance, clinical risk management and continuous quality improvement within the complex operating environment.
Ability to liaise and consult with all levels of the health industry.
Demonstrated commercial acumen.
Evidence of a current unrestricted drivers’ licence and the ability to maintain. Ability and willingness to drive/travel as the role requires. This may involve driving long distances and overnight stays.

Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases
This is a Category ‘A’ position, please read and understand NSW Health policy directive PD2024_015. All new employees must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy.
