John Hunter Hospital is seeking a Sleep Technician to join our Adult Sleep Laboratory within the Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine.

About the role:
As a Sleep Technician, you will play an important role in supporting patients undergoing overnight sleep studies. You’ll prepare and care for patients throughout their study, operate specialised equipment and ensure high-quality sleep data is recorded throughout the night.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll develop specialised skills in sleep science, working alongside experienced sleep physicians, nurses, scientists, technicians and administrative staff.

About the Sleep Laboratory:
The John Hunter Hospital Adult Sleep Laboratory is located on Level 2, close to the main entrance. Our purpose-built laboratory has six fully equipped bedrooms for overnight sleep studies and currently operates Monday to Thursday nights.

You’ll be joining a multidisciplinary team committed to providing a supportive and professional environment for both patients and staff.

What we're looking for:
We’re looking for someone who is reliable, patient-focused and comfortable working independently overnight, with:

• The ability to work 12-hour overnight shifts from 7:30 pm to 7:30 am
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Well-developed Windows-based computer skills
• The ability to work effectively with a diverse range of patients
• An interest in science, technology and/or healthcare
• Relevant qualifications or experience in Science, Applied Science, Biomedical Engineering or a related field

You don't need to have previous sleep laboratory experience, though it would be highly regarded. The specialised skills required for the role can be developed through our comprehensive in-house education and training program during your first month.

You'll learn how to prepare patients for sleep studies, apply EEG sensors and understand and differentiate the four stages of sleep, as well as develop knowledge of different types of sleep-disordered breathing.
