The Role

The vision for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is 'exceptional care, healthier lives'. SESLHD is committed to enabling our community to be healthy and well, and to providing the best possible compassionate care when people need it.
SESLHD’s Sexual Health and Blood Borne Virus Service (SHBBV) provide leadership, innovation and research in the sector. Services within SHBBV are involved in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of Sexually Transmissible Infections (STIs) and blood borne viruses at an individual and population level within SESLHD, as well as four statewide services.

Across these services, care is provided via fixed locations and outreach networks to a client base of approximately 28,000 individuals. SHBBV has highly skilled and diverse staff including nursing, medical, allied health, health promotion, administrative and technical staff. It is the largest SHBBV service in Australia.

The Kirketon Road Centre (KRC) is a targeted primary health care service located in Kings Cross, Sydney involved in the prevention, treatment and care of HIV/AIDS and other transmissible infections among people who inject drugs, sex workers, people experiencing homelessness, 'at risk' young people and Aboriginal people.

The Harm Reduction Project Officer (HR PO) is responsible for the provision of harm reduction services including Needle Syringe Program (NSP) services, brief intervention, referral and health education and promotion, HIV and hepatitis C prevention, overdose prevention and other relevant interventions.

The HR PO will develop and lead specific projects related to these areas across SESLHD, with particular focus on reaching key sub populations who may not be engaged in services. The position is District-wide with primary locations at the Sutherland Hospital, Kings Cross and Surry Hills and outreach services across SESLHD.

This position supports the strategic development of initiatives aimed at identifying hard-to reach populations at risk of acquiring HIV and hepatitis C and developing models of care in various settings to ensure early diagnosis and assessment of BBVs and maximise uptake of treatment in such populations. This position also provides direct delivery of NSP and outreach services at KRC sites.

Benefits:

•    Salary packaging options that reduce your taxable income and increase your take-home pay! Up to $9K for living expenses and $2.6K meal & entertainment & Novated Leasing.

  1. Relevant tertiary qualification and experience in the delivery of frontline services to diverse populations.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to harm reduction and the Needle Syringe Program including an awareness of the complexities and challenges involved.
  3. Demonstrated ability to design, manage and evaluate projects, to meet deadlines and to liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders eg community members, non-government organisations, LHD Executive, government agencies and other health workers.

  5. Understanding of health promotion and community development frameworks.
  6. Advanced communication and professional writing skills, including the production of high level reports.
