The Career Medical Officer (CMO) will be working within the Eastern Suburbs Mental Health Service to provide clinical services within adult general mental health settings (may be inpatient or community based). The role includes participation in duty rosters - evening, night, weekend, and public holiday rostered shifts as required. The main purpose of the position is to provide effective specialist psychiatric health services to patients, whilst undertaking learning and professional development activities.
All services operate within a multidisciplinary team-based environment and the CMO will be working with and reporting to consultant psychiatrists. The clinical work will involve working within a multi-disciplinary context and conducting assessments and planning treatment and/or discharge in accordance with the NSW Mental Health Act (2007). Supervision will be provided primarily by the Consultant Psychiatrist of the assigned rotation.
The position will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals.

Selection criteria:
- Registration or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
- Post-graduate experience within Psychiatry.
- High level clinical skills and involvement in clinical care, supervision, mentoring or teaching.
- Able to exercise a moderate degree of professional independence.
- Demonstrated skills in, and commitment to, improvements in clinical care, patient safety and risk management processes, including the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams to achieve change.
- Effective communication skills for working within health care organisations and the outside community, including capacity to use electronic communications (e.g. electronic records) effectively.
- Evidence of participation in continuing professional development.
- Current drivers licence (or a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position).
