Nepean Hospital is a teaching hospital that provides tertiary referral services in emergency care, coronary care, diagnostics, gynaecology, paediatric, neonatal intensive care/ICU, maternity, mental health, rehabilitation, and surgery. Our Nepean Cancer Care Centre is seeking to engage a Senior Radiation Therapist. In this position, you will manage the operations of an individual section/unit (i.e. a single linac), such as day to day running, throughput, and patient care, patient scheduling. Key duties will include managing immediate staffing in the planning or treatment areas of the Radiation Therapy department.

The Senior Radiation Therapist simulates, plans, and treats patients with ionising radiation in a timely and efficient manner whilst maintaining technical radiation therapy standards.  You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team maintaining quality communication and interpersonal skills with all staff, patients, carers and students, and actively participate in the training of staff and students.

The successful incumbent is expected to demonstrate excellent knowledge and proficiency in complex clinical procedures and participation in the development and upgrading of clinical protocols and techniques. What you will bring to the role

  1. Bachelor degree in Medical Radiation Science (Radiation Therapy) or Bachelor of Applied Science or qualification deemed equivalent by employer; General Registration as a Medical Radiation Therapist by Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Authority and holder of IA13 and S13 Radiation User Licence (NSW EPA Licence).
  2. Demonstrated recent extensive and continuous clinical experience with excellent knowledge in all aspects of radiation therapy, including modern and emerging techniques and technology, including multi-modality imaging and registration, IMRT/VMAT planning and advanced IGRT techniques.
  3. Demonstrated excellent organisational skills and multi-tasking to work independently, confidently and accurately in a timely manner.
  4. Demonstrated contribution and leadership in a high functioning team environment that encourages collaboration, openness, respect and participation in shared goals.
  5. Ability to manage and motivate staff together with an understanding of conflict resolution and performance management techniques.
  6. Demonstrated significant participation and involvement in Continuing Professional Development, Research, Quality Improvement and Training activities of self and others.
  7. Demonstrated excellent communication skills in written, oral and electronic formats.
  8. Demonstrated knowledge and application of radiation therapy quality assurance and quality controls, including radiation safety.
