NBMLHD Community Mental Health offers a range of specialised services for children, young people, families and older people, through our community-based services and health centres. Our multidisciplinary health professionals and case managers take a collaborative approach to mental health care by linking with their patients to work together and consult within an environment appropriate to the person's needs.

Embedded within the Youth Mental Health Initiative, this Senior Dietitian position sits at the intersection of physical health, mental wellbeing and lived experience, providing specialist care to young people aged 12–24 engaged with headspace services across Penrith and Hawkesbury. This position will work across Headspace Penrith and Headspace Hawkesbury Offices.

In this role, you will deliver advanced, developmentally informed dietetic care to young people experiencing disordered eating, nutritional risk and the impact of complex psychosocial circumstances on food intake. Your work will go far beyond meal plans. You will provide comprehensive nutrition assessment, medical nutrition therapy, consultation, education and counselling that supports recovery, growth and mental wellbeing within a community-based, interdisciplinary and recovery-oriented model of care.

What you will bring to the role

  1. Tertiary qualification in Nutrition and Dietetics and eligible for full membership with Dietitians Australia.
  2. Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge and experience in dietetics ideally within a mental health, eating disorders and/or adolescent health settings. Strong understanding of the interface between nutrition and mental health, including psychotropic medication effects, eating behaviour, and risk assessment in young people.
  3. Proven ability to undertake comprehensive nutrition assessments and develop, implement and review individualised care plans, and therapeutic interventions that support recovery, growth, and wellbeing for young people aged 12–24 years.
  4. Demonstrated ability to provide clinical supervision, mentoring, and leadership to junior staff and students, and to contribute to quality improvement, service evaluation, or research activities.
  5. High-level communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and with cross-sector stakeholders to advocate for dietetic care within treatment planning and care coordination.
  6. Demonstrated professional accountability, time management, and documentation skills consistent with NSW Health governance and Dietitians Australia professional standards.
  7. Ability to manage a part-time senior clinician workload, prioritise tasks, work independently and autonomously within a youth mental health framework with advanced clinical reasoning in novel or critical situations.
  8. Current Driver's License and willingness to use for work purpose travel.
