An exciting opportunity is available for a professional and compassionate Security Officer to join the team at Newcastle Pharmacotherapy Service within Hunter New England Local Health District.
This role is more than security — it’s about supporting the safety, wellbeing, and care of vulnerable clients and the healthcare professionals who support them every day. Working within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment, you will play an important role in maintaining a safe and secure service while responding to incidents with professionalism, empathy, and confidence.
Situated near the beautiful Throsby Creek precinct, this position offers the chance to work in a rewarding healthcare setting while enjoying the vibrant surroundings of Newcastle’s waterfront dining and community spaces.

About the Role
As a Security Officer, you will provide responsive and professional security services across the Newcastle Pharmacotherapy Service and surrounding facilities. You will be responsible for ensuring the safety of staff, clients, visitors, and property while contributing to a positive and supportive healthcare environment.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Responding promptly to incidents, emergencies, and duress alarms using a calm, trauma-informed approach
  • Supporting staff in managing challenging situations through de-escalation and conflict resolution strategies
  • Conducting patrols, safety inspections, and security checks throughout the facility
  • Monitoring CCTV, alarms, and access control systems
  • Maintaining accurate incident reports and security documentation
  • Delivering exceptional customer service to staff, clients, and visitors
  • Undertaking administrative duties relevant to the role
  • Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team

This position operates within a rotating roster environment and requires flexibility to support service needs.

What You’ll Bring
You are a reliable and resilient security professional with excellent communication skills and a strong customer-focused approach. You remain calm under pressure and are confident responding to aggressive, distressed, or vulnerable individuals with empathy, professionalism, and sound judgement.

Essential Criteria

  • Current NSW Security Licence 1A
  • Certificate II in Security Operations
  • Senior First Aid Certificate
  • Current Class C Driver Licence (NSW eligible)
  • Ability to work across a 24/7 rotating roster


To Be Successful in This Role, You Will Demonstrate

  • Proven experience working within the security industry, ideally in healthcare or other high-pressure environments 
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to perform duties with minimal supervision 
  • Proven ability to respond appropriately to challenging situations using de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques 
  • Confidence working both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team 
  • A sound understanding of security policies, procedures, and safe work practices 
  • Experience operating surveillance, CCTV, alarms, and electronic monitoring systems 
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure while supporting staff, patients, and visitors in a professional manner
