Are you passionate about using your own lived experience to support others through crisis? Tamworth Safe Haven is seeking compassionate and committed Peer Workers to join our inclusive and supportive team at our Bridge Street location.


🏠 About Safe Haven

Tamworth Safe Haven is a welcoming, non-clinical drop-in space for people experiencing suicidal thoughts or emotional distress, as well as those impacted by suicide.
We operate with compassion, dignity, and a deep respect for lived experience, offering a calm environment where people can find understanding, connection, and hope.
Our team works closely with mental health services and the local community to provide meaningful support beyond clinical care.


💼 About the Role

As a Safe Haven Peer Worker, you will draw on your lived experience of suicide to offer person-centred, non-judgmental support to individuals in distress. Key Details:

  • Casual position, based in Tamworth

  • Shifts available Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM
  • You’ll work alongside and be supported by a qualified Mental Health Clinician during your shifts
  • Your work may include:
    • Peer support (individual or group)
    • Safety and wellness planning
    • Advocacy and referrals
    • Connecting people to relevant community services and ongoing supports

We are looking for someone who:
️ Has a lived experience of suicide and feels confident using this experience to support others in a safe, constructive, and empowering way
️ Values collaboration and enjoys working as part of a multidisciplinary mental health team
️ Is committed to person-centred, trauma-informed care
️ Can build trust with people in crisis and work calmly under pressure
️ Is comfortable engaging with other services and support systems to ensure people receive the help they need

Additional Information:

  • To be eligible for employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport, or hold an appropriate visa that allows you to live and work in Australia.
