Cessnock District Hospital is located in a vibrant regional town surrounded by renowned vineyards, award-winning dining and beautiful countryside in the heart of the Hunter Valley.

The hospital provides emergency, surgical and general medical services to a rapidly growing community and is currently undergoing a major redevelopment that will transform local healthcare.

Our Emergency Department is set to transition into a state-of-the-art facility in 2027, featuring a 14-bed ED, dedicated Fast Track area and two resuscitation bays, creating an exciting future for emergency care in the region.

 

About the role

We are seeking a skilled and confident Registered Nurse with experience in Emergency or an acute care setting who is interested in joining our supportive rural Emergency Department team.

In this role, you will deliver high-quality, compassionate care to adult and paediatric patients across a wide range of emergency presentations. Working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, you will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure patients receive exceptional care during critical moments.

Your strong clinical judgement, ability to prioritise under pressure and commitment to person-centred care will be essential in supporting patients and their families through emergency situations. You will also provide leadership within the team by delegating care to Enrolled Nurses and Assistants in Nursing according to their scope of practice, while maintaining a strong focus on safe, effective patient outcomes.

 

About you

We’re looking for someone who demonstrates:

  • Experience in Emergency or acute nursing
  • A commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
  • Strong communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills
  • A compassionate and patient-focused approach
  • The ability to work a 7-day rotating roster, including nights and public holidays


Preferred:

  • Certification in Advanced Life Support (ALS) for adult and paediatric patients
  • Triage certification (ETEK), or currently working towards it

Emergency or acute care experience is essential to ensure you can confidently perform rapid patient assessment, prioritise care effectively and respond to urgent clinical situations.
