About the Service
The Family Care Midwifery Team provides continuity of antenatal and postnatal care to pregnant people living with psychosocial vulnerabilities. You will support families from early pregnancy until 4–6 weeks post birth, working collaboratively to provide trauma-informed, respectful, and culturally safe care.
This is a small, supportive team of midwives committed to delivering high-quality care to vulnerable families. You will work closely with a range of services including obstetrics, drug and alcohol services, social work, mental health teams, and other allied health professionals. The team culture is collaborative, flexible, and focused on providing compassionate, safe, and client-centred care.
About the Role
As a member of the Family Care Midwifery Team, you will provide continuity of care for vulnerable families, including both antenatal and postnatal care. Your day-to-day activities may include:
- Providing care to women and newborns in hospital and community settings
- Attending case conferences and multidisciplinary meetings
- Making appropriate referrals to enhance client care
- Collaborating with allied health, social work, and mental health teams
- Managing the diverse and unpredictable needs of families within a continuity of care model
You will be supported by a team of experienced midwives and will have access to monthly clinical supervision and ongoing education opportunities to develop your skills. Flexibility, strong time management, and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with others are essential for success in this role.
About You
You are a compassionate and adaptable midwife committed to working with vulnerable families. You bring a trauma-informed approach and are able to engage respectfully and safely with people experiencing complex psychosocial challenges.
Key skills and attributes include:
- High-level verbal and written communication skills
- Commitment to working in a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, high-quality care
- Ability to provide culturally safe and trauma-informed care
- Flexibility, time management, and strong organisational skills
- Willingness to engage in difficult conversations with clients exhibiting challenging behaviours
- Recency of midwifery practice is essential
