What you'll be doing

As a Radiation Therapist Level 2, you will undertake a full range of duties expected of the Radiation Therapist for the purpose of planning and delivering accurate and precise radiation therapy to patients as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologists including patient care, playing a pro-active role in the multidisciplinary team. Key responsibilities will be to:

  • Undertake the full range of patient care, quality assurance, radiation therapy simulation, treatment and planning duties including immobilisation and accessory manufacture, ensuring patients are treated with dignity and compassion at all times.

  • Work closely with Radiation Oncologists to plan and deliver various types of radiation treatment with precision and accuracy, ensuring all radiation work is carried out according to the WSLHD radiation management plan.

  • Actively educate patients and carers regarding the radiation therapy process, anticipated side effects and management in conjunction with the radiation therapy nurses and Radiation Oncologists.

  • Participate in all quality assurance activities within the district, reporting and investigating errors and near misses in treatment delivery and maintaining a continuous programme of self-improvement.

  • Maintain current knowledge of all modern techniques and technologies including multimodality image-based treatment planning and delivery, completing all mandatory training and participating in research and development activities.

Essential Requirement:

  • Qualifications: Graduate of a course in Medical Radiation Science-Radiation Therapy, accredited by the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Authority

  • Registration: Eligible for AHPRA registration as a Medical Radiation Therapist  

  • Licence: Eligible for EPA licensure by the Department of Environment and Climate Control NSW 

 

Selection Criteria:

  1. Demonstrate sound knowledge and experience in all aspects of radiation therapy, including demonstrate excellent communication skills in written, oral and electronic formats.

  2. Demonstrate knowledge and application of radiation therapy quality assurance and quality controls, including radiation safety measures in radiation therapy.

  3. Demonstrated proven ability to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team.

  4. Demonstrated interest in continuing professional development, research and quality improvement activities.

  5. Demonstrated commitment to excellent patient care.
