Counsellor – Violence, Abuse & Neglect Services

About the Role

As a Counsellor within the Violence, Abuse and Neglect (VAN) Service, you’ll provide trauma-informed crisis intervention, counselling, and case coordination for victims of domestic violence and their non-offending family members. You’ll work collaboratively with health professionals, NSW Police, and community agencies to ensure clients receive the care they need, when they need it.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering crisis assessment and counselling interventions.
  • Participating in Domestic Violence Safety Action Meetings and interagency collaboration.
  • Providing outreach services and hospital in-reach support.
  • Joining the VANS on-call roster for crisis response, including after-hours and weekends.
  • Maintaining accurate records and contributing to service improvement.
  • Being a person of female gender is a genuine occupational qualification for this position under section 31H of the Anti-discrimination Act.

Remuneration: $74,317.94 - $108,943.00 per annum (+ super +17.5% leave loading where applicable)

What We’re Looking For  

  • Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or relevant health qualification with AHPRA registration.
  • Experience in trauma-informed counselling and crisis intervention.
  • Strong understanding of domestic violence and child protection frameworks.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Current NSW Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel.
