You will contribute to policy and program development, review and evaluation of projects for the NSW Health Service, the Ministry of Health, and related government agencies to make a real difference for Aboriginal people in NSW.   

 

Projects for this role may include but are not limited to: 

  • Support the governance and administration of Aboriginal services to provide dental care and manage these stakeholder relationships

  • Support and co-ordinate sustainable Prevention and Oral Health Promotion projects and activities for Aboriginal People

  • Review and coordinate appropriate resources to provide to Aboriginal services for NAIDOC week.  

 

Health Manager Level 1 starting salary from $87,813 - $116,824, plus Super, with a 38-hour work week.  

 

What you'll be doing  
The Centre for Oral Health Strategy leads the strategic development and coordination of oral health policy and programs for NSW. The Centre monitors the implementation of population health-based oral health prevention initiatives and public oral health service delivery in NSW. 

 

The Project and Policy Officer for Aboriginal Oral Health Services supports the implementation of best practice policies, programs, projects, and activities for the Ministry of Health, public health organisations, and related government agencies. The position also provides policy advice to support the achievement of NSW Health’s objectives in relation to oral health service provision to Aboriginal people in NSW.

Selection Criteria 

1. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identify as being Aboriginal and be accepted in the community as such. All applicants must supply either a letter of Aboriginality signed under the common seal from a recognised incorporated Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community organisation such as Land Council or Elders group, Aboriginal Medical Service or a letter on letterhead from a Local Aboriginal Land Council demonstrating membership of the Council. Exemption is claimed under Section 14D of the Anti-discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

 

2. Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in health service organisations or equivalent industry experience in public health, with a demonstrated understanding of public and/or Aboriginal health service issues, policies and processes.

 

3. Excellent organisation skills, especially in relation to the preparation of agendas, meeting papers, the organisation of large seminars and functions and the ability to prioritise activities and tasks and meet deadlines. 

 

4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, being able to convey information to people clearly and able to adapt to new and different situations and provide high standard written documentation. 

 

5. Understanding and knowledge of NSW public health system and/or Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations. 

 

6. Demonstrated capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.

 

7. Current NSW Driver's license.
