Introducing the Nepean Adolescent Mental Health Unit (NAHMU), a fresh, purpose built 10-bed facility dedicated to supporting adolescents aged 12 to 17 who are navigating complex and severe mental health challenges. This state-of-the-art inpatient unit is the newest chapter in the Child, Youth and Family Mental Health (CYFMH) story, expanding its reach to provide compassionate, specialised care from the earliest stages of life through to young adulthood. NAHMU isn’t just a place of healing, it’s a vital step forward in empowering young people and their families with the support they need, when they need it most.
This role offers a unique opportunity to work within a specialist multidisciplinary service supporting young people with complex mental health needs during a critical stage of development. The successful applicant will provide high-quality, patient-centred pharmaceutical care to adolescents receiving mental health treatment across inpatient and community settings. Working closely with psychiatrists, nursing staff, allied health clinicians and families, the pharmacist will contribute to medication management, clinical review, risk mitigation and therapeutic decision-making, with a strong focus on safety, recovery-oriented practice and continuity of care.

What you will bring to the role
- Qualifications & Professional Standing: Bachelor or Master of Pharmacy (or equivalent qualification) recognised by the Pharmacy Board of Australia. Current general registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Clinical Experience in Youth Mental: Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge and experience in psychotropic pharmacotherapy and mental health pharmacy practice with children and adolescents.
- Collaboration and Communication: Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and families.
- Multidisciplinary work: Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and contribute pharmacy expertise to the development of integrated person centre care plans.
- Medication Safety and Quality Improvement: Experience leading or contributing to medication safety projects, clinical audits, or continuous quality improvement programs.
- Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking: Strong analytical and clinical reasoning skills with the ability to identify, assess, and resolve complex medication-related issues. Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail when performing critical tasks.
- Education and Professional Development: Demonstrated ability to design and deliver educational sessions for staff, patients, and families, and commitment to ongoing professional learning.
- Adaptability and Resilience: Proven capacity to manage competing priorities and maintain professional performance in a dynamic inpatient mental health environment.
