About the role
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and adaptable Pharmacist to join the Emergency Department at John Hunter Hospital (JHH), a busy tertiary referral centre. The Emergency Department is preparing for a major redevelopment in 2026, alongside the implementation of the NSW Single Digital Patient Record (SDPR), creating a dynamic and evolving clinical environment.
As an ED Pharmacist, you will work closely with medical and nursing teams to optimise medication safety, support patient flow, and deliver high-quality pharmaceutical care in a fast-paced setting. This role offers the opportunity to be part of one of the first Emergency Departments in NSW to implement EPIC as part of the SDPR rollout.
What you’ll be doing
- Working collaboratively with the ED team to identify patients who will benefit most from medication history and review
- Undertaking Pharmacist Partnered Charting, with strong departmental support to continue and develop this practice
- Supporting patient flow through the identification and resolution of medication-related issues
- Providing timely, accurate documentation and medication counselling to patients and carers
- Working across multiple ED zones as a trusted medication resource for medical and nursing staff
- Supporting safe prescribing and discharge processes
- Sourcing medication information from multiple providers and delivering clear, concise clinical summaries
- Adapting to evolving systems and workflows during departmental and digital transformation
About you
You are an experienced Pharmacist who thrives in a busy, changeable environment and enjoys working as part of a multidisciplinary team. You bring:
- Experience in Emergency Department and/or critical care settings
- Confidence working across multiple clinical systems and environments
- Strong clinical judgement and well-developed processes for gathering and synthesising medication information
- Excellent communication skills, particularly when working with patients, carers, and clinical teams
- A commitment to safe, high-quality pharmaceutical care and continuous improvement

Requirements:
- Current unrestricted registration as a pharmacist with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Ability to work a 7 day roster including weekends and late shifts.
- Current NSW driver’s license for roles where driving is a required component of the role

- To be eligible for employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport, or hold an appropriate visa that allows you to live and work in Australia.
