Join our compassionate and multidisciplinary team as a Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2 (CNS2) in our Eating Disorder Service. You'll play a vital role in providing consumer-centred care, consultation and support to children and adolescents and their families and carers experiencing an eating disorder.

 NSLHD Eating Disorder Service

What you'll be doing
The Paediatric Eating Disorder Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) works as part of the NSLHD Virtual Eating Disorder Service to provide trauma informed, culturally responsive, developmentally appropriate, evidenced based, direct nursing care and consultation to paediatric consumers (<18 years) with an eating disorder and their families/carers, living in or admitted to NSLHD services. In particular, the CNS will utilise telehealth and virtual care models to provide a post discharge service to consumers and their families presenting to NSLHD services; support GPs and primary care clinicians in the screening, assessment and treatment of eating disorders; act as a liaison point for clinicians, consumers and their families/carers to navigate accessing appropriate care and provide a specialist nursing service to consumers within the NSLHD Eating Disorder Service. The CNS also provides clinical leadership, support and supervision of less experienced clinicians within NSLHD inpatient, community and primary care settings, to achieve high quality care across the eating disorder spectrum of care. 

People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners' Regulation Authority (AHPRA) and relevant post-registration qualifications and at least three (3) years full time equivalent clinical experience working with child and adolescent consumers with Eating Disorders and their families/carers or such other qualifications or relevant equivalent experience.
  2. Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of people with feeding and eating disorders using evidenced based interventions. In particular, demonstrated knowledge of the use of CBT-E, Family Based Therapy, trauma informed care, telehealth and virtual models of care, and delivery of group therapies in treatment and meal support.
  3. High level interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated capacity to engage, negotiate and collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders (such as multidisciplinary healthcare providers, GPs, non-government and other government agencies) for a client group who are experiencing complex mental health issues. Demonstrated high level computer literacy and capacity to use health related information technology systems.
