What you'll be doing
A Nurse Practitioner / Transitional Nurse Practitioner (NP / TNP) is a registered nurse educated and authorised to function autonomously and collaboratively in an advanced and extended clinical role and is an expert in palliative care.
The NP / TNP role includes the assessment and management of patients using nursing knowledge and skills and may include but is not limited to initiation of diagnostic investigations, prescribing of medications and direct referral of patients to other health care professionals.
The NP / TNP role is grounded in the nursing profession's values, knowledge, theories and practice and provides innovative and flexible health care delivery that complements other health care providers (ANMC 2006).
NP / TNPs practice collaboratively as an interdependent member of the multidisciplinary health care team and provide autonomous, patient centered care.
People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.
Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
- AHPRA Registered Authorised Nurse Practitioner that has completed the Tertiary requirements including a Master’s Degree (Nurse Practitioner) or Registered Nurse willing to enrol in a Tertiary Master’s Program for Nurse Practitioner.
- Minimum of 5,000 hours of advanced nursing/midwifery practice during the last six years appropriate to the specialty area (or working towards within the next 3 years).
- Extensive malignant and non-malignant disease experience in patients with specialist palliative care needs.
Cross-service experience in the palliative care unit, community and acute hospital settings.
