The intention of the Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) Mental Health Drug and Alcohol (MHDA) is to provide recovery-oriented, trauma informed services that are guided by evidence-based practices and collaboration.

The position will manage and coordinate the North Shore Ryde Mental Health Service (NSRMHS) Inpatient Mental Health Services providing leadership, financial management and professional nursing oversight for the entire NSRMHS. The manager works collaboratively with Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) general hospital services, engaging and supporting effective communication and interfaces to facilitate positive working models.

Where you'll be working


Royal North Shore Mental Health Inpatient Unit

What you'll be doing
  • Operational Ensure performance targets as specified by the MHDA/Ministry of Health Service are met.
  • Provide effective leadership and management in relation to models of care, skill mix and workloads.
  • Monitor and ensure consumer flow across the mental health service through a seamless consumer journey, In keeping with MHDA key. performance indicators in relation to clinical and organisational care communication.
  • Participate in clinical and operational committees and meetings.
  • Ensure effective communication with staff by utilising appropriate formal and informal communication channels.
  • Provide overall effective leadership across the acute services workforce, including staff disciplinary issues, conflict and grievances within acute Inpatient portfolio.
  • Provide professional oversight of the nursing workforce across the NSRMHS.
  • Provide key point of contact for high level advice to the Director of Nursing (DON) MHDA, Nurse Managers and DON/Divisional Nurse.
  • Managers at Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) regarding Mental Health Consumer issues.
  • Provide oversight management and leadership to all after hours activities through after hour's management structure, including management of after-hours nurse managers.
  • Aligns recruitment to staff turnover, forecast activity levels and budgets.
  • Monitor 100% compliance with Australia Health Professional Regulation Agency (AHPRA) registrations of all nursing staff across acute inpatient units.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Current AHPRA Registration with authority to practice as a Registered Nurse Division 1. Recognised tertiary management qualification, or equivalent relevant post graduate clinical experience in mental health field, and / or a combination of study and extensive experience in mental health, drug and alcohol setting.
  2. Demonstrated ability in managing human resources, financial and administrative issues across a large and complex mental health service. Proven leadership skills that foster engagement.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of contemporary issues impacting on consumer flow and capacity to engage teams in implementing demand management strategies.
  4. Demonstrated evidence of achieving, innovative cultural change through implementing and evaluating, performance, policies and standards pertaining to clinical nursing services across a large site.
