An outstanding leadership opportunity exists for a highly experienced and dynamic Midwifery professional to take on the role of Midwifery Unit Manager (MUM) across multiple critical care areas within Nepean Hospital’s Women’s and Children’s Health Service.

This expansive portfolio spans the Birth Unit, Women’s Acute Assessment Unit (WAAU), Fetal Medicine Assessment Unit (FMAU) and Early Pregnancy Assessment Service (EPAS), providing an exciting opportunity to lead contemporary, evidence-based care across the maternity continuum.

The Midwifery Unit Manager Level 3 (MUM 3) provides strategic and operational leadership to oversee the coordination of care across the Birth Unit, Early Pregnancy Assessment Service (EPAS), Fetal Medicine Assessment Unit (FMAU), and Women’s Acute Assessment Unit (WAAU). The role is accountable for the effective management of physical, human, and financial resources at the local level to ensure service delivery is safe, sustainable, and responsive to patient needs and service demand. 
  
The position leads and supports high‑quality Midwifery practice, ensuring care is delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contemporary professional standards. As a strategic leader, the Midwifery Unit Manager actively contributes to workforce planning, change management, and service improvement initiatives, fostering a culture that supports evidence‑based, woman‑centred care and recognises labour and birth as normal life events.

What you will bring to the role:

  1. Registered Midwife - Division 1 with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) AND relevant management tertiary qualification or equivalent work experience, or a combination of study and work experience with a demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  2. Extensive recent post registration clinical experience and knowledge working within a high-acuity Birth Unit.
  3. Demonstrated ability to create and support a culture of integrity and professionalism which adheres to legislation and policy.
  4. Demonstrated high level of written and verbal communication skills and ability to liaise and negotiate with clinicians, managers, staff and other key stakeholders.
  5. Proven ability to ensure the human, physical and financial resources of the unit/ward are managed to deliver safe and efficient health care within available resources.
  6. Excellent leadership skills and the ability to motivate, inspire and manage staff to achieve service and organizational goals utilising change management principles.
  7. Evidence of and commitment to patient/customer focused care, clinical governance and quality improvement.
  8. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment.
