About the opportunity
NSW Health Pathology are seeking a temporary full time & temporary part time Technical Officer, located within Lismore Base Hospital to work with the Microbiology team. An eligibility is also being developed for future vacancies.
Microbiology is a key department of any Pathology Laboratory and by joining our dynamic team, you will be working in one of the largest regional laboratories in the state, servicing Lismore Base Hospital and the Northern Rivers Community.
Lismore Base Hospital is a regional referral hospital providing a wide range of health services to residents in Northern NSW. These services include a state-of-the-art Operating Theatre Suite, Intensive Care/Cardiac Care Unit, General Medical and Surgical Wards, Women’s Care Unit, Paediatric Unit, Renal Unit and Emergency Department.

What you'll be doing
In the position you will be performing microbiological diagnostic investigations using established methods and procedures as directed by the Senior Scientist in-charge. The position involves participation in a 7-day rotating roster and on-call roster.

- Minimum qualification of Diploma in Laboratory Technology or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution with subjects relevant to pathology or medical laboratory operations
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery of pathology services within a discipline relevant to the Microbiology department, including use of Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems and Quality Systems
- Ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner and to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment whilst working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes set to meet client expectations
- Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers and patients as well as clinical laboratory staff
- Display initiative, problem solving and analytical skills including an ability to apply established principles in a pathology laboratory and investigate and resolve general and complex issues within the laboratory environment
- Commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement and to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities
