NSW Health Pathology in Narrabri is offering a fantastic opportunity to join a small, dynamic team delivering comprehensive pathology services to the Narrabri Hospital and the surrounding communities of Narrabri and Wee Waa.

This role is ideal for a new graduate seeking to build broad experience across multiple pathology disciplines, or for an experienced scientist looking to step away from city life and enjoy a vibrant community in one of the most picturesque regions of NSW.

You’ll be part of a close-knit team of four scientific staff and three support staff, providing both routine and emergency pathology services to the hospital and local community. The laboratory operates Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm, with scientific staff participating in an on-call roster for after-hours and weekend coverage.

In this role, you will gain hands-on experience in Haematology, Clinical Chemistry, Coagulation, and Transfusion, working with modern laboratory equipment integrated with a newly implemented statewide digital patient record system.

What you'll be doing
Perform a range of laboratory investigations and tests (manual and automated) and technical tasks by applying established methods and procedures, as directed. Undertake other laboratory duties including preparation of materials and the maintenance of equipment in line with established laboratory processes, procedures and protocols.

  1. Minimum qualification of Diploma in Laboratory Technology or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution with subjects relevant to pathology or medical laboratory operations
  2. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery of pathology services within a discipline relevant to the department, including use of Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems and Quality Systems
  3. Ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner and to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines
  4. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment whilst working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes set to meet client expectations
  5. Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers and patients as well as clinical laboratory staff
  6. Display initiative, problem solving and analytical skills including an ability to apply established principles in a pathology laboratory and investigate and resolve general and complex issues within the laboratory environment
  7. Commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement and to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities
