About the opportunity 
NSW Health Pathology are seeking temporary and full-time and Phlebotomists to work with our blood collection team. The position is primarily based at Lismore, but you may also be required to work across multiple sites including Casino and Ballina. 

Blood collectors are the heart of any Pathology Laboratory and by joining our dynamic team, you will be working in one of the largest regional laboratories in the state, servicing the Northern Rivers Community.

Working closely with our Pre-Analytical Team, you will also have the opportunity to learn data entry and other key skills, to assist in the processing of specimens in preparation for the laboratory departments to complete their testing.

What you'll be doing

You will be required to perform essential blood collections services in a range of outpatient settings, community clinics, home collections and throughout the wards of the hospital. You will also be involved in a range of laboratory support and specimen reception activities, to deliver a truly patient focused service.

  1. Certificate III in Pathology Collections and/or previous experience in venepuncture or a demonstrated ability to learn all aspects of the clinical environment relevant to the Department.
  2. Demonstrated customer service experience and skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with patients, carers, and clinical staff in an environment transferrable to this role.
  3. Demonstrated problem solving and trouble shooting skills, with the ability to resolve general issues within the clinical environment including specimen preparation and transport ensuring viability of the specimens.
  4. Familiarity with pathology terminology and requirements and the willingness to learn a broad scope of collection, data entry and specimen preparation practices including paediatric and neonate blood collections.
  5. Unencumbered Class C Driver's License (valid in NSW) or the capacity to travel to any site for a shift as required.
  6. Willing to participate in shift type work including weekend work as required and travel to any site or location within the operational area as requested.
  7. Demonstrated ability to manage a demanding professional team environment where there are competing priorities and strict deadlines.
  8. Demonstrated computer skills including high attention to detail and data accuracy.
