About the opportunity

An exciting opportunity is now available to take up a role as a temporary Full Time Medical Laboratory Assistant on the stunning South Coast of NSW. Don't miss out!

You will be working in the Southern Region of NSW supporting a number of laboratories in a relief position with opportunities to work continuously throughout the year. As this role is dynamic, it will allow the successful applicant to both learn and grow in the NSWHP team in a number of pathology disciplines.

The South Coast area and the Greater Southern Region of NSW has a number of national parks, marine reserves, fishing, camping and great surfing locations to explore, all in quite peaceful surrounds.

What you'll be doing

Contribute to a high-quality pathology service. Perform a range of pre analytical duties including pathology collections, receiving and triaging of specimens, patient registration and request entry, specimen processing and preparation for transport or delivery to laboratories for timely accurate diagnostic testing.

  1. Certificate III in Pathology, Pathology Collections or Pathology Assistance, and/or previous experience in a pathology setting or a demonstrated ability to learn all aspects of the pre analytical environment, including phlebotomy.
  2. Demonstrated ability to manage tasks in a demanding environment where there are competing priorities and time constraints.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers, internal and external.
  4. Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills combined with the ability to investigate and resolve general issues.
  5. Proficient computer skills including high attention to detail and data accuracy and the ability to operate and maintain pre analytical equipment.
  6. Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive information in a laboratory setting, following relevant legislation, policies, and requirements.
  7. Willingness to participate in a 24/7 rotating shift roster, including weekends, public holidays, and night shifts, and the ability to travel to any site or location within the operational area as required.
