About the Role

Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) is seeking two experienced Clinical Coordinators to join the Greater Newcastle Mental Health Service. There will be one position primarily based with the Lake Macquarie team (Dudley Road, Charlestown) and one position primarily based with the Newcastle team (Watt Street, Newcastle). Both positions are members of the Greater Newcastle Mental Health Service and Mental Health Intake Service Leadership Team and will work collaboratively across both sites to support standardised models of care, clinical performance, and clinical governance processes.

The Clinical Coordinator provides senior clinical leadership across large multidisciplinary teams, supporting the delivery of high-quality, recovery-oriented mental health care in acute and complex community settings. These roles operate in fast-paced, time-critical environments and are integral to clinical governance, performance management, and service improvement. There is also opportunity to contribute to broader recruitment, workforce development, and service initiatives across the Greater Newcastle Mental Health Service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership to multidisciplinary community mental health teams

  • Lead and support service delivery within acute and complex community mental health settings

  • Ensure strong clinical governance frameworks that promote consumer-focused, recovery-oriented care

  • Support and influence critical clinical and operational decision-making in time-sensitive environments

  • Monitor, interpret, and communicate mental health performance indicators and clinical KPIs

  • Use data and electronic clinical records to inform service performance and quality improvement

  • Support clinicians to meet mandatory requirements and performance expectations

  • Foster collaboration across inpatient, community, intake, NGO, and broader health services

  • Contribute to service innovation, quality improvement, and workforce development initiatives

 
 
About You
You are an experienced mental health clinician with strong leadership capability and a passion for delivering consumer-focused, recovery-oriented care. You are confident working within complex systems and can balance clinical leadership with operational and performance responsibilities.

You will bring

  • Extensive experience in acute community mental health service delivery

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, influence, and support large multidisciplinary teams

  • A strong understanding of mental health clinical governance systems and standards of care

  • Experience working with mental health performance indicators and clinical KPIs

  • The ability to interpret clinical data and communicate insights effectively in a clinical setting

  • Confidence making sound decisions in pressured, time-critical environments

  • A collaborative leadership style with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels

  • Resilience and professionalism when managing service demands and performance expectations
