We are seeking an experienced and motivated District Clinical Coder to join the Information Management team at Nepean. This pivotal role is responsible for the accurate and timely coding of inpatient episodes of care in accordance with Australian Coding Standards and relevant classification and policy requirements, while upholding ethical clinical coding practices at all times. The District Clinical Coder will contribute to a range of clinical coding quality and auditing activities and support the collation, monitoring and trending of clinical coding key performance indicators and data quality initiatives.
The role also involves contributing to reporting on clinical coding quality outcomes and assisting in the development of guidelines, procedures and education resources informed by coding data quality findings. Regular liaison with health care professionals is required to promote high-quality clinical documentation and support continuous improvement in clinical coding practices.

What you will bring to the role
- Successful completion of a recognised clinical coding qualification with a minimum of twelve months continuous coding experience across a broad range of clinical specialties, and proven competency for Clinical Coder as specified in the HIMAA Clinical Coder National Competency Standards and Assessment Guide.
- Demonstrated experience in using computerised patient administrative systems (PAS); e.g. eMR, eRIC and 3M encoder.
- Demonstrated understanding of Activity Based Funding/Management Models and their relationship to Casemix, DRG and classification systems.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve clinical coding queries using sound judgement and initiative by interpreting relevant policies, procedures, and standards
- Demonstrated high level of written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise own workload to ensure deadlines and KPIs are met.
- Demonstrated ability to work both in an unsupervised environment and within a team with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated positive attitude and the flexibility to maintain work standards and a service focus in a changing environment and a current NSW drivers’ licence and being readily available and committed to travel to all facilities within NBMLHD.
