Salary range: $113,574-$125,720 pa and employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.


The Mental Health Commission of NSW is seeking a skilled Digital Communications Officer to support the delivery of high-quality digital communications across our website, intranet and social media channels. This role is ideal for an experienced digital communications professional who brings contemporary expertise in web publishing, social media and user-centred design, and who can use digital platforms to support the Commission’s work in mental health, wellbeing and suicide-prevention reform.


Role of the Mental Health Commission NSW
The Mental Health Commission of New South Wales (the Commission) was established in July 2012. The Commission's purpose is to lead, drive and measure mental health, wellbeing and suicide prevention reform across whole of government. Our progressive work shapes contemporary policies to achieve the best outcomes for the people of NSW.

The Commission works with government agencies, peak bodies, community-managed organisations, academics, advocacy groups and service providers. We believe this approach, with close collaboration in all aspects of our work, will achieve stronger services and better outcomes for all people in NSW.

About us
The Commission is a small agency of around 35 staff, with a significant role to play in mental health reform across NSW and in improving the mental health and wellbeing of the people of NSW.

You’ll be joining a small but dynamic team of communication professionals and using your expertise to help ensure our digital communications reach and resonate with our stakeholders.

About you
You are an experienced digital communications professional who enjoys being hands-on and working across multiple digital channels. You bring strong skills in social media, web publishing and content development skills, with a practical understanding of how different audiences engage with digital content and campaigns. You are comfortable managing end-to-end digital content and use analytics and audience insight to inform your recommendations.
You are confident working with content management systems such as Drupal and SharePoint, have a strong grasp of accessibility and user-centred design principles, and can translate complex information into clear, engaging digital content. You are organised, adaptable and collaborative, and motivated to using your digital expertise to take the Commission’s digital presence to the next level to improve mental health and wellbeing outcomes for the people of NSW.


Essential requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in communications, digital media, marketing or similar/related field.
  • Strong written communication skills, with experience in writing and preparing materials for a range of online communication channels, including website, social media platforms and staff intranet, preferably in a government setting.
  • Ability to integrate digital production skills with communication strategies, using analytics and reporting to evaluate effectiveness and inform continuous improvement.
  • An understanding of emerging technology and contemporary approaches to web development and content management systems and their practical application including user-centred design, information architecture, analytics and writing for the web.
  • Extensive web development skills and experience using content management systems, preferably Drupal and SharePoint or similar.
  • Understanding of mandatory NSW Government accessibility, branding and design guidelines or demonstrated ability to quickly gain and maintain up-to-date knowledge.
  • Working knowledge in the use of electronic document and records management systems (EDRMS), specifically TRIM (or equivalent), to ensure accurate classification, storage, retrieval, and archiving of communications corporate records in accordance with legislative and organisational requirements
