As Deputy Director of Nursing - Operational Nurse Manager Medical Services, you'll partner with executive leaders to oversee a complex portfolio encompassing Medical Services, Cancer Services and specialist nursing teams. You'll champion clinical excellence, inspire high-performing teams and drive innovation across one of New South Wales’s newest and fastest-growing hospitals.

 

About the Role

This senior leadership position provides operational and professional leadership across a broad portfolio including:

  • Medical inpatient services

  • Cancer Services

  • Palliative Care Services

  • Clinical Nurse Consultants (CNCs)

  • Nurse Practitioners

  • McGrath Breast Care Nurses

  • A large and diverse team of specialist nursing services


You'll provide strategic oversight of workforce operations, clinical governance, financial performance and service delivery while ensuring safe, high-quality patient care across Medical Services. Working alongside executive, medical and multidisciplinary teams, you'll influence hospital-wide initiatives and contribute to the strategic direction of nursing services. Partnering with the executive leadership team, this role also participates in the hospital's on-call roster.

 

What You'll Be Doing

As Deputy Director of Nursing, you will:

  • Provide professional nursing leadership across Medical Services

  • Lead workforce planning, staffing profile management and operational performance

  • Drive clinical governance, patient safety and quality improvement initiatives

  • Manage budgets, resources and service performance against key organisational targets

  • Support and develop Nurse Unit Managers and specialist nursing leaders

  • Lead organisational change and service improvement projects

  • Partner with executive, medical and multidisciplinary stakeholders to deliver exceptional patient outcomes

  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement.

 

 

About You

You are an experienced and strategic nursing leader who can inspire others while balancing operational priorities with long-term service planning.

You'll bring:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and appropriate tertiary qualifications, or working towards, and/or demonstrated relevant leadership or management experience.

  • Extensive leadership experience within a complex healthcare environment

  • Experience managing medical services, cancer services or a similarly complex clinical portfolio

  • Strong clinical governance and quality improvement expertise

  • Demonstrated experience managing workforce operations, budgets and resource allocation

  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills

  • The ability to influence change, lead innovation and develop high-performing teams

  • A collaborative leadership style with a passion for mentoring future nursing leaders

  • Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant specialty are highly regarded.
