What you'll be doing
In this dynamic and rewarding role, you will deliver high-quality, family-focused mental health care to children and young people, working collaboratively with families, carers, and a broad network of service partners to achieve the best possible outcomes. You will bring advanced clinical expertise to comprehensive mental health assessments within the Emergency Department, as well as conducting triage and Choice assessments to determine appropriate care pathways, including suitability for partnership models and connecting families with timely, tailored supports. Working across acute and community interfaces, you will promote evidence-based practice and build strong clinical partnerships with health professionals, schools, and community services. The role involves managing a varied and often competing workload, supporting young people and families who may be experiencing significant distress, grief, anger, or anxiety. You will also contribute to quality improvement and education initiatives, strengthening capability across services and helping to shape responsive, compassionate care for young people outside inpatient settings.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
  2. Relevant tertiary qualifications and experience as per clinical discipline and current full AHPRA registration (or eligibility for membership of AASW for Social Workers). Social Work / Occupational Therapy requires experience as a level 2 clinician. Clinical Nurse Consultant will have at least 5 years full -time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 3 years full-time equivalent in mental health and approved post graduate qualifications or substantial relevant clinical experience within this setting. Clinical Psychologist will have a postgraduate Masters or Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from an APAC accredited University.
  3. Extensive experience and knowledge of assessment, crisis management, safety planning and effective care planning with children and young people experiencing significant mental health difficulties including complex, co-morbid clinical presentations.
  4. Demonstrated ability to provide expert clinical consultancy, networking and communicating across a range of key internal and external stakeholders.
  5. Demonstrated senior clinical leadership skills with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and capacity to act as an independent consultant with excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to strengths based practice and recovery focused care as well as consumer and carer participation and consultation.
  7. Demonstrated experience with research activities, developing and implementing education programs and provision of formal and informal clinical teaching to a range of stakeholders.
