Mid North Coast Local Health District (MNCLHD) is seeking an Aboriginal Registered Nurse to join our Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2 – Aboriginal Nurse Practitioner Development Pathway. This is a supported clinical development opportunity for Aboriginal nurses with relevant post‑registration experience who are interested in building advanced clinical capability and progressing along a structured career pipeline. Applicants do not need to already be working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, Transitional Nurse Practitioner, or Nurse Practitioner.
The role commences at Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2 (CNS2) and provides structured education, mentorship and supervised clinical experience to support progression to the Transitional Nurse Practitioner (TNP) pathway when eligibility requirements are met, and ultimately Nurse Practitioner practice.

Current AHPRA registration
Relevant post‑registration clinical experience
Demonstrated willingness to undertake relevant postgraduate study and to progress to the Transitional Nurse Practitioner pathway when eligibility requirements are met
Commitment to culturally safe practice and ongoing professional development
Working together this role will
Provide holistic care to a broad range of acute and chronic presentations across the lifespan to address patient and community needs.
- Receive and make referrals to facilitate integrated care across disciplines or teams and contribute to clinical excellence through research, teaching, consulting and providing leadership to the nursing profession.
- Work autonomously and collaboratively in an advanced and extended nursing clinical role, meeting the clinical demand within their defined and agreed scope of practice and formulary, including patients with chronic and complex care.
- Provide expertise in chronic and complex health conditions and support the development of best practice emergency / inpatient care plans and coordination of discharge plans for identified high risk Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients with chronic and/or complex medical diagnosis that present to Coffs Harbour Health Campus and Galambila Aboriginal Medical services.
- Create culturally safe partnerships to address priority population groups within the Coffs Clinical Network community including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people living with a disability, people experiencing homelessness or on low incomes, older people and culturally and linguistically diverse groups.
- Coordinate health care activity and referral to, and liaison with, internal and external community agencies and services relevant to their conditions.
