SESLHD Drug and Alcohol Service offers a range of treatment and support services for people with problems from their alcohol, prescription or illicit drug use, and/or their families and carers. Outpatient D&A services are located in clinics at the Langton Centre in Surry Hills, St George Hospital in Kogarah, and Caringbah Community Health Centre at Sutherland Hospital. Inpatient D&A services are provided at Sydney Hospital, Prince of Wales, St.George and Sutherland Hospitals. Our goal is to improve health, wellbeing and social outcomes for individuals, families and the community, related to drug and alcohol use.
The Sydney Drug Court (SDC) of NSW is a specialised court that oversees the rehabilitation of drug dependent offenders who would otherwise be incarcerated. The court has local court and district court jurisdiction and supervises certain categories of offenders in highly structured and intensive programs of treatment and rehabilitation involving the health system and other providers.
The Clinical Nurse Consultant is responsible for the provision of comprehensive expert drug and alcohol clinical consultancy services to the Sydney Drug Court as outlined in the NSW Drug Court Clinical and Operational Guide for Health. This position will be responsible for the provision of a range of drug and alcohol services including assessment, case management, counselling and group work for clients referred from the Sydney Drug Court, Downing Centre Sydney. The Clinical Nurse Consultant in the Sydney Drug Court delivers clinical leadership and education, and participates in research and clinical services planning in line with the criteria for a Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 1 as per the NSW Public Health System Nurses and Midwives (State) Award.
The position may be required to work across multiple SESLHD Drug & Alcohol Service locations.

Selection Criteria:
- Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse, Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
- Minimum five years full time equivalent post registration experience and in addition who has approved post registration nursing/midwifery qualifications relevant to the field in which he/she is appointed, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation.
- Proven clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaborate within a multidisciplinary frame work with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice.
- Demonstrated effective communication and inter-personal skills across a variety of mediums and knowledge of the practice development framework to clinical practice.
- Demonstrated involvement in the development /change of clinical practice underpinned by evidence based research.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic and clinical service planning.
- Proven skills in clinical teaching, the identification of education needs in the clinical area, and competency in the use of contemporary information systems.
- Ability to apply clinical expertise in client-centred consultancy with the ability to work independently.
