Nepean Hospital is a teaching hospital that provides tertiary referral services in emergency care, coronary care, diagnostics, gynaecology, paediatric, neonatal intensive care/ICU, maternity, mental health, rehabilitation, and surgery. The Nepean Campus has recently experienced tremendous growth and aims to support communities within and outside of Sydney’s western suburbs, providing world-class clinical facilities, services, and care.

We are seeking a passionate Clinical Coder to join our Health Information and Record Service.

In this role, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely coding of inpatient episodes of care in accordance with the Australian Coding Standards and other relevant documents. You will also commit to maintaining ethical coding practice and will engage in quality-related activities.

To succeed in this role, you must have evidence of extensive clinical coding experience in a major trauma hospital, as well as proven coding accuracy of 95% or higher. The recruitment process for this position will involve a face-to-face interview and a practical coding exam.

What you will bring to the role

  1. Successful completion of a nationally recognised (HIMAA) course in clinical coding (ICD-10-AM) or tertiary qualification in Health Information Management (or equivalent) or such other qualifications deemed to be equivalent by the employer and/or extensive coding experience in a tertiary hospital
  2. Demonstrated experience and competence in clinical classification using ICD-10-AM and high-level knowledge of current Australian Coding Standards.
  3. Experience in using computerised patient data bases, electronic medical record and clinical systems.
  4. Demonstrated ability to adapt to change.
  5. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to working in a team and achieving team goals.
  7. Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise own workload to ensure daily benchmarks are met.
  8. Commitment to continuing professional development and to working in a continuous quality environment.
