Central Coast Local Health District are seeking dedicated, self-motivated and experienced staff members interested in the position of Advanced Clinical Coder in Health Information Services (HIS).

Flexible work options available - Gosford HIS / Wyong HIS / Working from Home (WFH). Part time / job share will be considered.

About The Opportunity

As an Advanced Clinical Coder and highly skilled health information professional, you will be responsible for accurately translating clinical documentation from patient medical records into standardized diagnostic and procedural codes. These codes are used for hospital funding, activity-based funding (ABF), morbidity reporting, research, healthcare planning, and compliance with national coding standards.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing complex inpatient and outpatient medical records
  • Assigning accurate codes using systems such as:
  • ICD-10-AM
  • ACHI
  • ACS
  • Ensuring compliance with national and state coding guidelines
  • Interpreting clinical terminology, diagnostics, procedures, and pharmacology
  • Optimising DRG allocation and activity-based funding outcomes
  • Conducting coding audits and quality assurance activities
  • Liaising with clinicians to clarify incomplete or ambiguous documentation
  • Supporting education and mentoring of junior coders
  • Maintaining confidentiality and data integrity standards
  • Contributing to morbidity data reporting, health statistics, and clinical governance initiatives

About You

  • Completion of a recognised ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS coding course or recognised degree in Health Information Management.
  • Extensive experience and competence in using ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS, including experience coding in a hospital with a broad range of specialties with a proven knowledge of Australian Coding Standards, DRGs and Casemix and their application in the health system.
  • Experience in staff training/mentoring, development and supervision with demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Highly developed organisation, communication and mentoring skills with excellent presentation and interpersonal skills.
