Primarily based at Northern Beaches Hospital, the After‑Hours Nurse Manager provides senior clinical leadership, operational oversight, and coordinated support for the Mental Health Inpatient Units and linked community services. This pivotal role ensures safe, effective after‑hours service delivery through integrated supervision, liaison across NBH and BCHC, and strong collaboration with senior managers and the NBMHS MHDA Executive.

What you'll be doing
In this role, you will provide senior after‑hours leadership across the Mental Health Drug and Alcohol (MHDA) Services at Northern Beaches Hospital. You will manage incidents, support clinical decision‑making, oversee staffing and resource allocation, and ensure safe, person‑centred care across inpatient units, the Emergency Department, Consultation Liaison, and community mental health services at NBH and BCHC. You will play a key role in maintaining patient flow, guiding and supporting staff, promoting a strong safety culture, and contributing to service planning and improvement across the Northern Beaches Mental Health Service.
People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.
Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
- Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse and at least three years in the specialty of mental health nursing with a management qualification or significantly working towards same.
- Please describe your experience in providing senior clinical and operational leadership within mental health services, including how you manage complex and competing priorities, support staff, and maintain safe, high‑quality care across multiple sites after hours.
Please outline your expertise in patient flow management, mental health legislation, policies, and procedures, including your ability to lead bed management processes, manage resources effectively, and support clinical decision‑making in high‑pressure environments.
