About The Role 

Are you an experienced and confident nursing leader ready to take on a pivotal role in a dynamic, high-acuity healthcare environment? We are seeking a dedicated After-Hours Manager to provide senior operational and clinical leadership across the facility outside standard business hours. As the After Hours Manager, you will be an integral member of the hospital’s senior nursing leadership team, ensuring safe, coordinated, and efficient service delivery during evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays. This is an opportunity to play a critical leadership role in ensuring high-quality patient care and operational excellence after hours. You will be supported by strong governance structures and a collaborative leadership team, enabling you to make meaningful contributions to patient outcomes and staff wellbeing.

You will oversee hospital-wide operations, support patient flow, workforce management, and clinical governance while responding to emerging risks, incidents, and unplanned events. Working closely with Nurse Managers, medical staff, multidisciplinary teams, and the Executive on Call, you will provide calm, decisive, and visible leadership when it matters most.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide senior clinical and operational leadership across all areas of the facility after hours
  • Coordinate patient flow to support timely, safe, and effective care delivery
  • Manage staffing resources and respond to workforce challenges
  • Lead responses to clinical incidents, emergencies, and operational issues
  • Escalate risks appropriately in line with NSW Health and HNE LHD policies
  • Support staff, patients, and families through visible, professional leadership
  • Ensure compliance with clinical governance, risk management, and safety standards

About You

You are a highly capable healthcare leader who thrives in complex and fast-paced environments. You bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in senior nursing or clinical leadership roles
  • Strong clinical judgement and confident decision-making skills
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining patient safety
  • Sound knowledge of clinical governance, escalation frameworks, and risk management
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in high-pressure situations
  • Resilience, adaptability, and the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively
  • A commitment to modelling NSW Health CORE values: Collaboration, Openness, Respect, and Empowerment

Selection Criteria

  • Registered Nurse with current registration (or eligible for same) with AHPRA.
  • Relevant post graduate qualifications in clinical leadership or management, or willingness to undertake same

Demonstrated ability to guide others to analyse workplace issues and developing solutions to enhance systems and work processes.
