We’d love to hear from someone who is deeply connected to culture, community and the wellbeing of Aboriginal families, whether you’re already working in mental health or community services, or you’re ready to bring your lived experience and community knowledge into the health sector.
You will bring:
- A strong understanding of Aboriginal culture, kinship, community strengths and social and emotional wellbeing.
- Confidence building trust with Aboriginal families and engaging meaningfully with community organisations.
- A collaborative spirit and willingness to work closely within a multidisciplinary mental health team.
- The ability to bring an Aboriginal cultural lens to assessment, intervention and care planning.
- Curiosity and commitment to ongoing learning, including opportunities for further mental health training.
- Clear, respectful communication skills and the confidence to advocate for culturally safe care.
- A genuine passion for improving access to culturally grounded mental health support for Aboriginal parents, babies, and families.
Selection Criteria
To help us assess your suitability for the role, please tell us as much as you can about yourself in response to the questions below.
- In this role being an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a genuine occupational requirement. Tell us about your mob and connection to culture?
- Willingness and ability to complete further education in Mental Health or relevant qualification e.g., Certificate IV Mental Health; Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health) qualification at Charles Sturt University or an equivalent clinical qualification negotiated and approved by the Mental Health Service.
- Describe your connection to Aboriginal culture and community, and explain how this would support your work with Aboriginal parents, families and the broader community within a mental health setting.
- Provide an example of a time you supported an Aboriginal person or family through a challenging situation. What was your role, what approaches did you use, and what did you learn?
- Explain how you would contribute an Aboriginal cultural perspective when working with mental health clinicians to plan and deliver culturally safe care. What strengths would you bring to a team environment?
Do you have a current Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2)? if you hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
