Join the Aboriginal Maternal & Infant Health Service (AMIHS) at Mount Druitt Hospital, dedicated to improving access to maternal health services for Aboriginal women and women having an Aboriginal baby. ·       Be part of a supportive, culturally inclusive team within WSLHD

·       Collaborate with Aboriginal Health staff and the New Directions Team

·       Work from the Aboriginal Health Hub on the grounds of Mount Druitt Hospital

·       Engage with local Aboriginal communities and key internal and external service providers

·       Contribute to meaningful programs that strengthen maternal and infant health outcomes

 

What you'll be doing 
In this vital role, you will work closely with the AMIHS Midwife and Aboriginal Health team to ensure Aboriginal women and their families receive culturally appropriate care, advocacy, and support.

·       Establish, promote, and deliver culturally safe and accessible maternal health services

·       Collaborate with maternity, child, and family health services and local Aboriginal programs to remove barriers to care

·       Provide education, advocacy, referral, and support to Aboriginal women and families

·       Facilitate access to clinical interventions, transport, and community services to meet social, emotional, and cultural needs

·       Develop partnerships with communities and service providers to enhance program delivery, engagement, and positive health outcomes

Essential Criteria:

·       License: Driver’s licence valid in NSW

·       Qualification: Aboriginal Health Worker: Holds or aspires to hold a Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or Aboriginal Family Health or other equivalent qualification. Aboriginal Health Practitioner: Hold a Certificate IV in Aboriginal Primary Health Care (Practice)

·       Evidence of Diversity claim if applicable (state which category): Aboriginal and / Or Torres Strait Islander

 

Selection Criteria: 

1.     This is an Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such. Exemption is claimed under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

2.     In this role, being a woman is also a genuine occupational qualification as authorised by Section 31 respectively of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW.

3.     Holds or aspires to hold a Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or Aboriginal Family Health or other equivalent qualification in a health-related field relevant to the role. For an Aboriginal Health Practitioner holds a Certificate IV in Aboriginal Primary Health Care (Practice) and a current authority to practice as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) .

4.     Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures with established links to the local Aboriginal community in western Sydney.

5.     Demonstrated understanding of issues impacting on Aboriginal women and women having an Aboriginal baby and their infants and and / or experience in providing social support, linkage to services, group work, community education, advocacy and health promotion with the Aboriginal community.

6.     Demonstrated ability to provide cultural brokerage with individuals, families and communities; cultural guidance for the other members of the team; and, facilitate respectful and culturally safe access for individuals, families and communities.

7.     Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as a member of a multidisciplinary team and can demonstrate good oral and written communication skills and computer skills.

8.     Current driver’s licence valid in NSW and willing to use for work purposes.
