Mindgardens Neuroscience Network is revolutionising the care and support of people with mental health, neurological and alcohol and drug disorders. Mindgardens brings together the strengths of four founding member organisations: SESLHD, UNSW Sydney, NeuRA and the Black Dog Institute. Together they form a unique and highly concentrated hub of expertise, centred in the South Eastern Sydney region but with the capacity to serve the whole NSW community. Spanning clinical, research, service design and system innovations – Mindgardens represents a comprehensive response to creating a strong connection of community care and hospital systems in the delivery and quality of health services for mental health, drug and alcohol and neurological disorders.
The Youth Education Specialist works intensively with young people experiencing a range of mental health issues providing them with support to stay in or continue their education. This involves assertive outreach work combined with excellent youth engagement skills to ensure young people are well supported and are linked to suitable education opportunities.
The position is responsible for providing educational leadership to clinical staff within the SESLHD Bondi Youth Mental Health Centre and actively develops partnerships with a wide range of external organisations to enhance educational outcomes for young people through extensive contact with the Department of Education, educational institutions (e.g. schools and colleges, apprenticeship network providers, TAFE, registered training organisations and universities), community service organisations and other health professionals.
The role is initially for 12 months however there is potential for extension.

This position will be based at the SESLHD Bondi Junction Mental Health Centre – Eastern Suburbs Mental Health Service (ESMHS).

Selection Criteria:
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the below questions as thoroughly as possible.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and experience in a related field such as career development, educational engagement, health promotion, public health, disability employment, or youth work.
- Extensive knowledge of issues that impact young people when accessing educational and/or employment opportunities.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic partnership development and demonstrated understanding of education systems and processes.
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the education services sector, school-link, TAFE, University, traineeship and apprenticeship providers and other state and federal education establishments.
- Willingness to learn relevant administrative procedures, including software applications and filing systems.
- Current Drivers Licence and a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position.
