Where you'll be working
Join the Drug Health team at Mount Druitt, supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people accessing Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) services across Western Sydney Local Health District. You will work across diverse service settings and alongside clinical, community, government and non-government partners to strengthen culturally safe and connected care.

  • Work within a collaborative District AOD team committed to culturally responsive practice

  • Build relationships across health, social support, justice, primary care and community services

  • Support improved access to culturally safe services for Aboriginal people and communities

  • Contribute to stronger referral pathways and continuity of care across Western Sydney

  • Help services respond to the social, cultural and historical factors that shape health and wellbeing

 

What you'll be doing 
As an Aboriginal Care Navigator, you will provide culturally informed care coordination, system navigation and specialist cultural advice to support positive outcomes for Aboriginal people accessing AOD services.

  • Coordinate care and support navigation across health, social and community service systems

  • Provide advice on culturally safe assessment, complex care planning and treatment approaches

  • Support AOD teams to embed culturally safe, trauma-informed and culturally responsive practice

  • Build partnerships with government, non-government and other services to strengthen coordinated care

  • Provide guidance and supervision to staff to promote culturally safe and clinically appropriate services

Essential Criteria

  • License:  Current unrestricted NSW driver licence with the ability and willingness to travel as required. 

  • Registration:  Relevant tertiary qualification and current registration with AHPRA or eligibility for AASW/PACFA membership, as applicable to the discipline 

 

Selection Criteria

  1. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent with strong links to the local Aboriginal community (as per Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW)).

  2. Relevant tertiary qualification and current registration with AHPRA or eligibility for AASW/PACFA membership, as applicable to the discipline

  3. Demonstrated extensive knowledge of substance use issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, with experience in AOD, mental health and/or social and emotional wellbeing.

  4. Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality, culturally safe, person-centred and holistic care that promotes self-determination

  5. Demonstrated leadership capability, including supervision, training and effective teamwork and ability to work independently.

  6. Demonstrated experience and understanding of innovative, evidence-based practice in service planning, delivery, evaluation and continuous improvement.

  7. Current unrestricted NSW driver licence with the ability and willingness to travel as required.

  8. Willing to work across WSLHD Drug Health Services as required
