Sydney Hospital is Australia's first hospital and dates from the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788.

Today, Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospitals’ state of the art facilities and professional staff provide a unique blend of general and specialist medical services for the public and community, including a 24 hour emergency services, general medicine including close observation unit, perioperative services, specialist hand and eye surgery.

The Hospital is in the heart of the Central Business District in Sydney. 

The hospital is:

- Directly across the road from Martin Place and St James Station

- Walking distance to various Bus stops

- The Light rail is a walking distance on George St

- walking distance Ferry terminal at Circular Quay


What you'll be doing
The vision for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is ‘exceptional care, healthier lives’. SESLHD is committed to enabling our community to be healthy and well, and to providing the best possible compassionate care when people need it.

The role of the Wardsperson is to :  
  • Work under the supervision of nursing staff to assist in the delivery of safe and effective patient care.
  • Provide a support service to clinical and patient areas.
  • Provide high quality care that is customer focused to the patient/clients and carers of Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital
  • Work collaboratively with members of the multidisciplinary health team care
  • Effectively manage resources relevant to the service
  • Maintain and promote a professional standard of practice, adherence to the policies and standards of SESLHD and the appropriate legislation and statutory regulations
  • Transport patients to and from treatment and diagnostic areas as directed by the NUM or the Registered Nurse
  • Assist Nursing Staff with the transfer of deceased patients to the Mortuary
  • Communicate effectively and with respect at all times
  • Attend Code Black and Code Blue emergency calls as outlined in the SHSEH Emergency Response Manual

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.

All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment/ engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.

A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements.

In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.

Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

  1. Recent previous experience as a Wardsperson or a similar position.
  2. Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work with independently and in a team environment.
  4. Proven good time management skills.
  5. Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of WH&S principles.
