About the role

The Volunteer Chaplaincy Team Leader provides pastoral care, mentorship, and leadership to the Chaplaincy Team within their designated location or specialised role. This position supports chaplains in their professional development while ensuring the effective delivery of chaplaincy services to NSW Ambulance staff, their families, and former employees (Legacy Chaplain). Working in collaboration with the Chaplaincy Leadership team, the Team Leader will assist in fostering a supportive and engaged chaplaincy network.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide pastoral care, emotional support, and mentorship to volunteer chaplains. 
  • Act as the first point of contact for chaplains within their team. 
  • Support chaplains in maintaining mandatory training, professional development and professional supervision. 
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with chaplains and leadership. 
  • Promote team cohesion and well-being through regular engagement and support. 
  • Assist in identifying and recruiting suitable candidates for volunteer chaplaincy roles. 
  • Mentor newly appointed chaplains, ensuring a smooth transition into their role. 
  • Support ongoing training and professional development for chaplains. 
  • Work closely with the Chaplaincy Leadership Team to identify and address any local challenges or concerns. 
  • Engage with other Staff Health teams (when appropriate) to promote holistic staff well-being, eg. RU OK Day, TAFRD 
  • Participate in monthly teleconferences with the Chaplaincy Leadership team 
  • Ensure chaplains are aware of and adhere to NSW Ambulance policies and procedures. 
  • Assist in reporting and resolving any issues affecting chaplaincy services. 
  • Keep up to date with MHL and RedCap reporting 
  • Keep up to date with your own Professional Development and Professional Supervison.


About You

We are seeking a compassionate and professional Chaplain with prior NSW Ambulance chaplaincy experience.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Relevant theological or chaplaincy qualifications and at least one year of NSW Ambulance chaplaincy experience.
  • Endorsement from their religious organisation and a current driver’s licence.
  • Strong pastoral care skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Integrity, confidentiality, and the ability to work in a multi-faith team or independently.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning, professional supervision, and self-care practices.
  • Proficiency with Mandatory Health Learning, Microsoft Office, and RedCap.
  • Engages in Professional Development and Professional Supervision
