Visiting Medical Officer in Trauma Surgery
John Hunter Hospital
Two roles available: Quinquennial Appointment & 12-month fixed term

Hunter New England Local Health District is seeking two highly skilled and committed Trauma Surgeons to join the Trauma Service at John Hunter Hospital, a major tertiary referral and Level 1 Trauma Centre serving Northern NSW.

About the role:
As a Visiting Medical Officer, you will provide high quality, contemporary specialist trauma care, contributing to both acute trauma management and specialty elective surgical services. You will work within a consultant-led model of care and participate in the Trauma Service roster at John Hunter Hospital. 

Your responsibilities will include:
•    Providing safe, evidence-based, patient-centred trauma and elective surgical services.
•    Contributing to daily consultant ward rounds and multidisciplinary handover. 
•    Participating in clinical supervision, teaching of trainees and junior staff and supporting postgraduate education. 
•    Actively contributing to safety, quality, risk management and clinical governance activities including M&M’s and guideline development. 

This role requires attendance and availability during rostered hours and while-on call, including for emergency and routine care.  When rostered for the trauma service, the clinician must not hold any clinical responsibilities outside John Hunter Hospital. 

About You:
You are a specialist Trauma Surgeon with a commitment to excellence, collaboration, clinical leadership and high-quality patient care. You thrive in a busy tertiary trauma environment and enjoy contributing to a cohesive multidisciplinary team. 

You will demonstrate:
•    Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Trauma Surgery and Specialist registration with AHPRA. 
•    Recent and comprehensive trauma surgery experience in a major trauma service. 
•    Strong communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across disciplines.
•    Desirable: Completion of a trauma fellowship; experience within a major trauma service.
