Join South Western Sydney Local Health District Mental Health as an Undergraduate Assistant in Nursing (AIN) and take the next step towards a rewarding nursing career. This exciting opportunity allows you to apply your university learning in a real-world clinical environment while working alongside experienced Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, and multidisciplinary teams. You will develop your clinical skills, confidence, and professional capability through hands-on experience delivering compassionate, person-centred care to patients, while supporting their families and carers. We are seeking nursing students who have successfully completed at least two semesters of a Bachelor of Nursing or Graduate Entry Master of Nursing (GEM) program and have completed at least one clinical placement. You are a compassionate and patient-focused individual who demonstrates empathy, active listening, and respect in all interactions with patients, families, and carers. With strong communication and interpersonal skills, you work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and are committed to delivering safe, high-quality, evidence-based, and culturally responsive care. Reliable, professional, and adaptable, you are willing to work a variety of shifts, including weekdays, weekends, and public holidays, and are eager to grow your skills within an organisation dedicated to supporting the next generation of nurses.
Selection Criteria
To help us assess your suitability for the role, please tell us as much as you can about yourself in response to the questions below.
- Current enrolment in, and successful completion of, at least two semesters (one year full-time equivalent study) of a Bachelor of Nursing or Graduate Entry Master of Nursing (GEM) program, as evidenced by an academic transcript, and completion of at least one clinical placement.
- As an Undergraduate Assistant in Nursing, you will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse while recognising your own scope of practice. Tell us about a situation where you identified a concern, sought guidance, or followed instructions to ensure safe patient care. What did you learn from the experience?
Mental health settings require compassionate, person centred care and effective communication. Describe a time when you supported a consumer experiencing distress, anxiety or challenging emotions. How did you respond, and what was the outcome?
