About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity is available for an Undergraduate Assistant in Nursing (AIN) to join the brand-new Tamworth Mental Health Unit, providing specialist inpatient mental health care to consumers across the New England North West region. Purpose-built to deliver contemporary, recovery-oriented care, the new Tamworth Mental Health Unit features 37 inpatient beds, including 20 general adult beds, 5 high-acuity beds, 4 beds for younger people and 8 beds for older persons. The service provides comprehensive inpatient treatment through a multidisciplinary team comprising nursing, medical, psychology, occupational therapy, social work and allied health professionals. Consumers are supported through evidence-based treatment alongside a structured therapeutic group program that promotes recovery, social connection, education, skill development and improved physical and mental wellbeing. From your first day, you'll be welcomed into a supportive learning environment with a comprehensive onsite orientation, regular in-service education and ongoing access to professional development, clinical supervision and mentorship. This is an excellent opportunity to build your clinical skills while gaining valuable experience in a specialist mental health setting alongside experienced clinicians.

What You Will Be Doing

As an Undergraduate Assistant in Nursing, you will work under the delegation and supervision of Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses to support the delivery of safe, recovery-oriented and person-centred care.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Assisting consumers with activities of daily living, including personal care, nutrition, mobility and comfort.
• Undertaking delegated consumer observations and accurately documenting findings.
• Monitoring and reporting changes in consumers' behaviour, mental state or physical health.
• Supporting consumers to participate in therapeutic, recreational and recovery-focused activities.
• Assisting with routine clinical tasks within your scope of practice.
• Maintaining a safe, therapeutic and welcoming ward environment.
• Communicating effectively with the multidisciplinary team to support continuity of care.
• Working within a clearly defined scope of practice under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

This role does not include clinical assessment, care planning, medication administration or supervision of other staff or students.

Essential Requirements

• Current enrolment in an undergraduate Registered Nursing degree.
• Successful completion of first year and the first semester (or trimester) of second year of the nursing program.

• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
