The Trainee - Unaccredited Position in Neonatology is available at The Children's Hospital at Westmead for the 2027 Clinical Year, from 01 February 2027 to 06 February 2028. The Grace Centre for Newborn Intensive Care (GCNIC) at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead provides an environment that includes all facets of neonatal care with protected research time and close clinical and research supervision. It is suitable for Trainees wishing to pursue a career in Neonatology and provides exposure to cardiac, surgical and complex medical conditions. GCNIC is a 23 bed neonatal intensive care unit who provides acute inpatient services for approximately 630 sick newborn infants each year.
The Unit cares for infants with cardiac and surgical problems or complex medical conditions. Infants are referred from throughout the state of NSW, the Australian Capital Territory and surrounding islands. The unit is located within NSW’s largest paediatric hospital which allows exposure to a wide variety of complex medical and surgical conditions and contact with many sub-specialists. There is a comprehensive and extensive teaching and tutorial program within the hospital plus a number of computer and research related courses on offer.

Selection Criteria
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- At least 12 months experience in Level III newborn intensive care; demonstrating proficiency in neonate resuscitation, airway management, insertion of peripheral and umbilical arterial and venous lines
- Demonstrated commitment to further education, professional development and teaching
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team with effective communication skills
- Understanding of Clinical Governance and demonstrated commitment to its application
